Greg Johnson, from Rugeley in Staffordshire, was born in June 2001.  Growing up in the local area, he fell in love with sport from an early age, competing for many different clubs across a variety of sports, including captaining the Lakeside Football Team from 2010 to 2012.  Even though Greg had always been involved with sport, it wasn’t until he was 14 that he found his true calling with motorsport.

Greg started his motorsport journey with Rednal Kart Club in Oswestry.  He was inspired by the “arrive and drive” karts when growing up and decided to venture into karting by racing his own Junior Rotax in the local championship. Greg quickly honed his driving skills and won the winter series at the end of the 2015 season.  With this success under his belt, he turned his focus to junior saloon car racing with Ginetta for the 2016 season.

After finishing his high school studies, Greg’s passion and ambition for motorsport was stronger than ever.  It was at this point that he applied to join the MSA Academy and enrol on the MSA AASE programme. The programme runs for three years and ultimately gives the participants various BTEC certificates in areas such as sport, business and motor vehicle.

On talking about the programme Greg has said

“…the course modules will naturally enhance my skills and knowledge and in time, all will play a huge part in improving my driving and racing ability.  To be selected for the programme alone was a real privilege as only 20 out of 60 students that applied were accepted. The opportunity I have been given is immense.  Being able to work closely with the coaches, nutritionists and psychologists as well as attend performance-based sessions in the technical and tactical elements of racing [as well as coaching, lifestyle, career management, health and safety, communications and media] will help shape me as an individual and in my future career.”

Greg has made the move to pursuing motorsport as a full-time career and is currently working hard to create a business platform that will enable him to move up the ranks and achieve his goals.  Greg’s ultimate ambition is to become a professional GT racing driver. To realise this goal, he is looking to partner with like-minded businesses to deliver mutually beneficial marketing projects through the motorsport industry.
